What a week in Kosovo actually costs in 2026
Real numbers from a seven day trip: beds, buses, dinners, a hire car and the coffee habit you will pick up. Kosovo remains one of the cheapest countries in Europe to travel, but not everything is a euro.
Kosovo uses the euro without being in the eurozone, which makes budgeting easy and slightly misleading: prices look European and then the bill arrives. Here is what a normal week costs, based on a mid range trip covering Prishtina, Prizren, Peja and the mountains.
The daily numbers
- Macchiato: 1.00 to 1.50 EUR
- Plate of qebapa with bread: 3.00 to 5.00 EUR
- Sit down dinner with a drink: 9.00 to 15.00 EUR
- Double room, decent guesthouse: 25.00 to 45.00 EUR
- Intercity bus, Prishtina to Prizren: around 5.00 EUR
- Hire car, per day: 30.00 to 45.00 EUR
- Mountain guesthouse with half board: around 30.00 EUR
A realistic week
Two nights Prishtina, two nights Prizren, three nights Peja and the Rugova valley, travelling by bus with two days of car hire in the middle. Beds come to roughly 230 EUR, food and coffee to about 170 EUR, transport including the car to around 130 EUR, and entries, guides and the odd museum to 60 EUR. That is a little over 590 EUR for the week, or roughly 85 EUR a day for two people sharing.
Where the money actually goes
Not on accommodation, which is the cheapest part. It goes on transport the moment you leave the main bus corridors. Rugova, Brezovica and Mirusha are all awkward to reach without a car, and a hire car for two days will out cost every bus you take all week. Budget for it deliberately rather than discovering it on day four.
Carry cash
Cards work in city restaurants and hotels. They do not work on buses, in bazaars, at mountain guesthouses, at Mirusha or anywhere a taxi is involved. ATMs are common in towns and non existent above the valley road. Take more cash than feels sensible before heading into the mountains.
